Boston, MA-based illustrator and designer, Krista Perry, is all about having a good time — a notion that is also reflected in her playful style of illustration. Her work, inspired by bright colors, nostalgia, vintage ephemera, and ham, often has a humoristic edge to it that appeals to our inner child.
According to her website, her selected clients include Big Bud Press, Isenberg Projects, Bright Lite Magazine, Compound Butter Magazine, and Arnold Worldwide. “My very favorite part of the process is working on the small details of the painting,” she notes. “I like to see how realistically I can render things. It has always been a super fun challenge for me.”
Her toolbox includes Gelly Roll gel pens, POSCA paint markers, Tombow dual tip markers, and metal mechanical pencils, amongst others, but she’s most excited about gouache. “I usually prefer to paint with HOLBEIN ACRYLA GOUACHE.” she says. “They have THE BEST COLORS! They’re so yummy and beautiful! Sometimes, I like to practice with traditional gouaches (the kind that reactivates when water is added). They each provide their own special qualities that I get way too excited about.”
