The new photo shows Madonna with short brunette hair, looking very different from the blonde look she has been sporting lately. One of her young daughters is seen peeking over Madonna’s shoulder.
Madonna is going back to the basics. At least, she did so when posing for a recent photo alongside her daughter. The pop star ditched her now-trademark blonde locks for a wavy dark brunette hairstyle, teasing her followers that she’s considering committing to the color.
Madonna is known for many things: being the queen of pop, an actor and director, and owner of the MDNA skincare brand. But for most of us, when we think of Madonna, we think of her with wavy blond hair.
But it seems the pop star wants to take things over to the darker side, as she recently showed off a brunette pixie cut, and we’re into it. Madonna shared two photos on her instagram of the new look captioned, “But what if……………….?” perhaps hinting it might be a wig (or even a clever hair colour changing app), but she might be considering making the new hair a permanent addition to her look. A few days later, Madonna treated us to another angle of the new style, accentuating her blue eyes.
Fans in the comments are loving the change saying, “I love your new look Madonna” and “Yes! Always loved you with black hair!” Get a closer look at her new hair ahead, as well as a reminder of her iconic blond style.
Posing in front of wig heads—and possibly wearing hair that was lifted from one—Madonna wrote, “But what if…” Madonna has been almost consistently blonde for the past 20 years, one of the last times she wore a darker hair color having been in 1999 at Vanity Fair’s Oscars party. At the time, she opted for an amber color.
The Queen of Pop took to Instagram to debut a darker new ‘do in an adorable selfie with one of her 6-year-old twin daughters.
Back in 1989, Madonna talked about her different experiences as both a blonde and brunette. “Being blonde is definitely a different state of mind,” she told Rolling Stone. “I can’t really put my finger on it, but the artifice of being blonde has some incredible sort of sexual connotation. Men really respond to it. I love blond hair, but it really does something different to you. I feel more grounded when I have dark hair, and I feel more ethereal when I have light hair. It’s unexplainable. I also feel more Italian when my hair is dark.”
Back in November, she shared a throwback picture of herself with short brown hair, pairing the look with a black bandanna, black vest, and red T-shirt. “Throwback af” she captioned it.
While her beauty looks are ever-evolving, the one constant is her confidence, as she recently explained. “You can have all the beauty treatments in the world you want and you can be a gorgeous, stunningly beautiful creature, [but] if you don’t feel good on the inside and you don’t feel confident and happy about who you are, none of that really matters,” she told Byrdie. “For me, confidence and loving yourself and feeling good about yourself are the first secrets to beauty. I tell that to my daughters every day.”
Madonna’s brunette look may be in preparation for an upcoming promo cycle behind her next album, which she has been hinting at for quite some time. She’s working with French producer Mirwais, who helped helm her sound on American Life and Music. While the new album’s vibe might be similar, the singer’s hair seems like it could be a lot different.
